This ASTir Plasma Augur is able to penetrate through most industrial materials, but the nanotech infestation of the drill can slowly pierce through materials that even the basic version has problems with. Like all living (or semi-living) things, nanites need to thrive, which they absorb in abundance from the plasma coils
