CAIN is a Boss in The Kraken Expansion DLC of The Surge 2. Bosses are special Enemies that feature their own arena, a large and prominent health bar, and a variety of unique moves and abilities. You will need to choose the appropriate Weapon, Gear and Combat Drone in order to defeat these formidable foes.

CAIN Boss Strategies
Strategy Writeup
Cain's attacks have a very long reach so it's difficult to fight him from a distance. If you have a tank build you can face him from a close distance. Focus on his legs and every time you break one of them he will become staggered providing you a good opportunity to heal and recover.
If you are not playing a tank build you can wait for him to attack to strike back. When he performs the tornado attack you can use the EMP-44 'Starfish' to stagger him. You can also use your drone to aim to his legs and break them off to stagger him and provide a good attack opportunity.
You can attack his left arm to make the mechanical bird fly away. This will prevent the EMP strikes.
You can destroy the mechanical ball remove one of his arms each time. He has 8 legs and if you remove them all he will lose the Tornado Ability.
Hardcore Kill method
Sever none of the legs and do not perform a finishing move to receive Ungula Universalis.
Drain the pool before the fight to acquire Red Hot Poker (You need the Backyard Key from Norm Turner, either by killing him or completing his quest Breaking The Norm)
Destroy the "parrot" drone perched on his left arm to acquire Parrobotic Drone. It is advised to use a long weapon (preferably a spear) and hit the arm with a vertical attack. Procedure: hit CAIN's left arm, after that the "parrot" drone will fly in the air, so stop hitting the arm; instead, wait for the "parrot" drone to sit back on CAIN's left arm and repeat. Do NOT hit CAIN's left arm too fast without waiting for the "parrot" drone to sit back on it, otherwise you'll kill CAIN before being able to destroy the drone, failing to get the reward.

| Mechanical Arm Strike: It will scan the area around the player and a red painting will appear on the ground. So which is it? (at the moment I'm leaning towards destroying the armor on all legs, but not using the finisher on them)

Using the EMP-44 Starfish on the mechanical bird will disable it, both stopping EMP attacks and preventing it from fleeing so you can destroy it faster. If you use it during the tornado attack you can destroy it in only two cycles.
I tested a number of different approaches to determine how to get 3 items from defeating Cain: The Ungula Universalis, Red Hot Poker, and Parrobotic Drone If you drain the pool before the fight, you get the Red Hot Poker, otherwise, you receive the Tenta-kill. If you break the shield on the left arm during the fight, you receive the Parrobotic Drone If you do NOT sever CAIN's legs, you will also receive the Ungula Universalis and in total receive 3 items for the kill. I did not receive the Ungula Universalis if I severed his legs. Standing in the oil puddles / being hit by oil spray did not change the rewards. I was unable to sever CAIN's right arm before he died. In total, I ran over 6 versions of the CAIN fight with a save just prior to its start.

so how do you fight him if you DONT drain the pool? you cant fight him if the pool is full of water since you cant swim so arent you forced to drain the pool to start the fight in the first place?

The Hardcore kill is wrong.. to get 3 items you need broke all their 8 legs, after broken the left arm

I just did it myself, while doing the parrot. I hit only his left arm (while waiting for the parrot to come back on top of it), then once the arm was gone, I switched to the right arm for the remainder of the fight. I did everything I could to avoid hitting his lower body/legs, and when the execution prompt came up I also ignored it and kept just hitting the arm until he was down.
